For a while now I have wanted to create my own version of a chess
application, not just the GUI but the engine as well. The stalemate in
my planning has been which language to use. For my purposes, I was torn
between Java and C++; Java because I wanted to learn more about the
language as I am no expert in it(I can maneuver around in it alright
but not to my satisfaction), and C++ because I am experienced in it and
I've realized a few nice GUI libraries to use.

To me it's kind of funny... I'm in a tech position, contributing to and supporting three different development groups within Sun and during my excessively long tenure of 1.5 weeks I have learned more about how the company and its professionals operate more than I have learned about the hardware we work with. So that I don't mess up what I'm trying to say, I will give you a percentage of how I believe I have spent my recent time. The basic run down is like this:

This Monday, the ninth, I begin my new job at Sun Microsystems
working along lab engineers within the company's Storage Division. At
this point and regarding my new position, I am not exactly sure what is
appropriate to share with the public in a blog such as this. So, if I
read the technicals correctly and get approval as I imagine I would
need, I'll surely talk about what I will be doing. But until that time
comes I'll just remain close to null about the subject.
